How long do I need to be out of work?
It is best to wait 2-3 weeks before resuming exercise. You should start gradually and work your way up to your usual routine. Light walking is encouraged as soon as you are able to promote circulation.
  • Facelift – 2 weeks
  • Eyelid-2 weeks
  • Breast augmentation– 1 week
  • Breast reduction/lift – 2 weeks
  • Liposuction – 1 week
  • Fat injections- 2-3 days

It is always better to schedule more recovery time then you think you need.
It is common for swelling and bruising to last approximately 2 weeks after a procedure; however healing time is different for each patient, but measures can be taken to speed up the recovery process. Examples include arnica and Bromelain, cold compresses, sleeping elevated, and limiting salt intake.
It is recommended to stay out of the sun for a month after your procedure at the least. Remember to always wear sun block and limit time spent in the sun as to prevent darkening of the incision lines.

Aspirin, diet pills, and common vitamin supplements can cause bleeding after surgery, increased swelling, raised blood pressure, or alter your sugar levels. 2 weeks before your surgery you should stop taking aspirin, all herbal supplements and the following drugs:

  • Aspirin, Advil, Motrin
  • Any diet pills or herb blends designed to control appetite
  • Vitamin e
  • Chromium
  • Garlic
  • Ginko
  • Ginger
  • Goldenseal
  • Flaxseed
  • Fishoil
  • Echinacea
  • Licorice
  • Saw palmetto
  • Ephedra
  • Ginseng
  • Feverfew
  • Kava-kava
  • St Johns Wort
  • Valerian root

** diet pill Phentermine MUST be stopped 4 weeks prior to surgery

It is required that you have someone pick you up from the office and take you home. Depending on which surgery you are having, you may need a family member or friend to take care of and monitor you afterwards. Private duty nurses are also available upon request.

Practice Closure & Retirement

After more than 40 years of practicing medicine together, Drs. Elizabeth and Glenn Jelks have made the decision to retire and will be closing Glenn W. Jelks, M.D., P.C. (the “Practice”) as of August 31, 2026. We will no longer be able to provide medical care after that date.

Caring for you has been an extraordinary privilege, and we remain deeply grateful for the trust you placed in us. The Practice has always been intentionally small and personal, and the relationships we’ve built through the years are more than words can express.

Your continued care is important. We encourage you to establish care with a board-certified plastic surgeon or appropriate specialist who aligns with your goals.

Your medical records will remain confidential and securely maintained for six years, or as otherwise required by applicable law, after the Practice closes. During this time, if you would like a copy of your records or wish to have them released to your new provider, please complete this request form, which includes an authorization for your completion.

We extend to you our best wishes for your future health and happiness.

Warm regards,
Glenn W Jelks MD
